The land-side operations of the Port, is totally under the management of the Ports Department. This Department controls the activities within the Port area and is fully responsible to negotiate tariff rates and other incentive schemes to develop the Port business.
Muara Port offers a very flexible Two-Shift system, from 0700 hours until 2200 hours. The second shift being capable of providing an extended service on request. This enables the port to utilise manpower and equipment to its optimum. Thus producing very high levels of productivity.
All Vessels are provided with an efficient and cost effective service, backed by a fleet of modern shore equipment run by experienced personnel.
Being a Government body, the Ports Department basically provides the infra-structure for the smooth running of all Port Operations, which are very efficiently managed and run by the Private Sector. Thereby the Port-User has the added advantage and benefit of having the high cost infra-structure provided by the Government, and the Port Services provided by an efficient Private Sector.
The services provided by the Private Sector includes all Stevedoring services, Shore Crane Services and Cargo Handling Forklift Equipment. This is supplemented with the Yard Container Handling Equipment owned and operated by experienced Port personnel.
In addition to the overall physical supervision and monitoring of operational performance by Ports Department personnel, Vessel Productivity, Vessel turnaround time, and Berth throughput are closely monitored with the aid of modern computer equipment, to ensure that the accepted performance indicator targets are maintained all times. These performance indicators are very closely and consistently monitored by the Port Management to confirm that accepted industry norms are maintained during every stage of the Port operation. By this we guarantee our commitment to providing a dedicated service to all Ship Owners and other Port Users.
Facilities
The facilities available at the Multi-Purpose Berth at present, are capable of servicing Conventional Cargo Carriers, Self-sustained Container Carriers, and Ro-Ro Car-Carriers which usually ply the trade routes in this region.
The access to the commercial berth is through a dredged canal 2.6 kilometres long and which could accommodate Vessels with a maximum draught of 9.5 metres. The depth alonside is 10 metres, and is capable of accommodating second generation Containerised Vessels.
The Berth planning unit provides a scheme whereby Mother/Feeder Vessels are given priority services to meet their critical shipping schedules. This scheme is further extended to cover Vessels having fixed-day sailing schedules from/to Singapore and the EAGA region.
The Refrigerated Container facility at this Terminal will provide 100 universal plug points to cater for imported as well as transit refrigerated cargo. To assure a very high quality service for this expensive cargo, the Reefer facility will be fully backed up by a Reefer Container monitoring service. This will guarantee the Shipper/Consignee that the cargo is maintained at the required critical temperatures during the full transit period. An independent power supply source is available to ensure continuous power supply for the safety of the cargo.
Storage Facility
The total terminal facility will cover an area of 10 hectares giving a container stacking area of 50,000 square metres. This is expected to give an additional storage capacity of 3,000 Teus for laden Containers and a further 2,500 Teu's for empty containers. For more versatility in operations, the yard equipment will be backed by a fleet of the latest Reach Stacker Machines, which could meet any unexpected downtime due to breakdown of yard gantries.
Warehouse Services
The Ports Department provides Long Term storage Warehousing facilities for use by Importers and Exporters. This facility is situated just outside the Port Premises, and is considered an asset to the major Importers. With the Customs Department situated within the same port complex, it provides for very easy processing of documents, as well as low transport costs to the operators. Whilst the occupancy levels are at optimum, studies are being carried out to improve on the services and facilities provided.
