The Port of Beihai,
situated in the northeast of Beihai Gulf in the South
China Sea and at the tip of Beihai Peninsula, is a
main international trading port in South west China.
Beihai Port, consisting of an old port area and a new
port area, has nine productive berths with a total
berth length of 1210m, out of which there are four
deepwater berths for vessels of over 10,000 dwt. The
throughput of the port in 1995 amounted to 2.02
million tons.
During the Eighth Five-Year Plan
period, on the basis of the completion of the first-phase
of the new port area, the second-phase of the new port
area was constructed. Two deepwater berths, one for
vessels of 20,000 dwt and one for vessels of 35,000 dwt,
were completed with a total berth length of 453m and a
designed annual throughput capacity of 950,000 tons. The
building of the railway line, connecting Beihai Port with
QinZhou-Beihai Railway, was commenced on 28 July 1995.
