The port of Fuzhou,
situated at the north east of Fujian Proviance and
bordering the Taiwan Strait on the east, is a historic
open port and one of the coastal hub ports for foreign
trade in China. There are 45 productive berths in the
port, among which 13 deepwater berths are for vessels
of over 10,000 dwt. the throughput capacity in 1995 was
10.27 million tons and containers handled were 150,000
TEUs.
During the
Eighth Five-Year Plan period, 5 berths were built in
Quingzhou port area, i.e. 2 container berths for
vessels of 15,000 dwt grain and general cargo berths
for vessels of 15,000 dwt and one passenger berth for
vessels of 7,500 dwt. At the same time, one berth for
vessels of 3,000 dwt at Yingqian were completed. The
designed annual throughput capacity was increased by
2.34 million tons and the passenger traffic was
increased by 300,000 persons.
