JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PORT

INTRODUCTION
Youngest and the most modern port of India Commissioned in May 1989
Land Area: 2500 hectares (6000 acres)
Planned with a view to decongest Mumbai and serve as a hub port for this region.

CONTAINER TERMINAL
Three berths (Linear quay length of 680 Meters)
Can handle 3rd generation container vessels.
Rail mounted quay cranes-(RMQC):6 nos.
Present capacity: 7,00,000 TEUs per annum
Container Yard: 35 hectares (30,000 TEUs capacity) and additional paved area.
Ground Reefer Slots 240 nos.
Additional 2 RMQC being acquired.

RO-RO FACILITY
Berths for RO-RO vessels for export/import of vehicles.
Ample space for parking of export vehicles near berths prior to the arrival of vessel.
Exclusive yards for vehicles.
BULK TERMINAL 

DRY BULK

Two berths for dry bulk and one multi purpose berth for handling liquid and other cargo (linear quay length 712 mtrs.)

Capacity: 2.9 million tonnes for dry bulk and 3.5 million tonnes for liquid bulk

Each berth can handle ships up to 85,000 DWT.

Rear side of multi-purpose berth can accomodate ships up to 16,000 DWT.

Automated system for unloading dry bulk cargo mainly fertilisers raw material, fertilisers and foodgrains.

Two continous unloaders each with a capacity of 400 cubic meters per hour.

Congential handling of import/export of iron ore products and export of foodgrains at multi purpose berth.

LIQUID BULK

Front and rear side of multi purpose berth for handling of liquid cargo (Class B & C)

Vessels up to 75,000 DWT can be berthed at the front side.

Vessels up to 16,000 DWT can be berthed at the rear side.

Capacity 3.5 million tonnes.

Berths connected to tank farms by dedicated as well as common user pipelines.

Tank farms developed by private users on land leased by the port.

CONTAINER FREIGHT STATIONS(CFS)

IMPORT CFS
Two Import CFSs, located at about 7 km. from container terminal
Total capacity about 7000 TEUs per month
Links with port's on-line computer through modem
Few more import CFSs are fast coming up.
EXPORT CFS
Three CFS located at Mumbai, Mulund and Dronagiri.
Two CFS located at about 7 km. from container terminal
Total capacity about 6000 TEUs
Links with port's computer through modem
Few more CFSs are coming up in the vicinity of the port.

CONTAINER TERMINAL
Free storage period of three days for import containers destined for CFS.
Free storage period of seven days for export containers.
Free storage period of 15 days for ICD containers.
Free storage period of 30 days for Trans-shipment loaded containers.
Delivery of FCL, LCL containers and duty paid containers within 24 hours.
Priority berthing facilities available (Conditions apply)
BULK TERMINAL
Free storage period of 12 days for import cargo.
Free storage period of 15 days for export cargo.
Almost nil cargo handling loss due to mechanised handling through conveyors.
GENERAL

GREEN SIDE OF THE PORT
Greenest port of India
800 hectares of land is exclusively reserved for greenery.
Since 1984, the port has agressively greened about 500 hectares

BULK TERMINAL

Mechanised berths
Two berths for dry bulk BB-1 & BB-2 (linear quay length 500 Meters.)
Capacity: 2.9 million tonnes for dry bulk (import)
Each berth can handle ships upto 70,000 DWT (85,000 DT)
Automated system for unloading dry bulk cargo mainly fertiliser, raw material for fertiliser and food grains.
2 Grab unloaders each with capacity of 400 cubic Meters per hour.
2 Continous unloaders each with capacity of 450 cubic meters per hour.
Covered conveyor belt system from berth to storage shed.

 

STORAGE, BAGGING AND DISPATCH FACILITIES

Fertiliser (3 Sheets) 80,000 to 115,000 tonnes each
Food grans (1 shed) 42,000 tonnes
Bag storage (1 shed) 30,000 tonnes
Covered Railway Platform (2 tracks) 750 Meters

Bagging machines 20 numbers for fertilisers in two streams
  10 numbers for foodgrains in one stream

 

MULTIPURPOSE BERTHS  BB-3 & BB-4 

Conventional handling of import /export of iron ore products, Export of foodgrains and Import/ Export of liquid cargo. Class B&C (Safe grade Chemicals)

Vessels upto 70,000 DWT can be berthed at the front side (BB-3)

Vessels upto 15,000 DWt, 250 meters LOA & 9 meters draft can be berthed at the rear side (BB-4)

Berth connected to tank farms by dedicated as well as common user's pipelines.

Tank farms developed by private users on land leased by the port

 

FACILITY FOR CAR CARRIERS

Front side of multipurpose berth (BB-3) for handling Car Carriers on Priority.

Ample space for parking of export vehicles near berths prior to arrival of vessel.

Exclusive yards for vehicles.

 

CONTAINER FREIGHT STATION  (CFS)

Operational CFSs
JNP CFS 21.56 hectares (mainly for import containers)
Long standing and hazardous cargo sheds in JNP CFS
CWC CFS 16.00 hectares (mainly for Export containers at Dronagiri Node).
Maersk CFS 2.5 hextares + 3.45 hectares.

 

BUFFER YARD

One yard of 40,000 sq. m. has ben developed for storage of export containers till completion of documentation.
New CFSs bening developed near the port
Conware CFS 10.77 hectares.
Gateway Distripark CFS 10 hectares.
Balmer Lawrie CFS 6 hectares.
Natvar Parikh CFS 1.56 hectares.

III. NEW PROJECTS UNDER EXECUTION 

1. Construction of two berth container terminal at JN POrt.
The project is under Implementation through private investment on Buiuld, Operate and Transfer (BOT) Basis. Salient features of the project are as under:
Total quay length    -    600 Meters
Draught at berths    -    (-) 12.5 Meters chart Datum
Backup area    -    28 hectares

 

EQUIPMENTS 

- Rail Mounted Quay Cranes - 6 Nos.
- Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes for Container Yard - 15 Nos.
- Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes - 3 Nos.
License:Nhave sheva International Container Terminal Ltd.
Schedule date of completion
(a) Phase- I (i.e. one berth)                      -  Early 1999
(b) Complete Terminal (i.e. 2 berths)        -  2000 A.D.
Capacity of the Terminal - 600,000 TEUs per annum.

 
2. MARINE CHEMICAL TERMINAL 

First phase investment cost about Rs 1600 crores.
Five berth marine chemical terminal has been planned by the port to be develop through private investment on Build, Operate and Transfer basis. Project has been technically cleared by MOST. However, environment clearance for the project is under its examination,
