Making of Power State

Back 

Nature has not only bestowed Himachal Pradesh with a abundance of natural beauty, but also priceless natural resources. That are fully capable of making it a powerful state. The water of gushing rivers is a precious resources for strengthening the economy of the State. While lacking over the reigns of the Pradesh three years ago, the present government look an ambitious pledge to develop Himachal Pradesh into a Power State. To fulfill this commitment a number of steps have been taken.  The State is bordered by Jammu & Kashmir on North, Punjab on West and South-West, Haryana on South-West, Haryana on South, Uttar Pradesh on South-East and China on the East.

 

Deep gorges make the terrains difficult and the climatic conditions hostile.  Average rainfall is 1,489 min.  the five major river systems which emanate from the Western Himalayas-Chenab, Ravi, Beas, Satluj and Yamuna, pass though Himachal Pradesh and the identified hydro potential in thise rivers is estimated to the 20376MW which is about 25 percent of the total Hydro Potential of the entire country. This vast hydel power potential available in the State is a precious resource and has invited utmost priority from the government in HP to optimally exploit the same for speedy economic growth and overall development of the State.

 

HYDRO POWER

 

HYDRO Power is a renewable, economic, non-polluting and environmentally benign source of energy. Hydro power stations have an inherent ability for instanceous starting, steping, load variations etc. and help in improving the reliability of the power system. Hydro stations are the best choice for meeting the peak demand. tHe generations cost is not oly inflation-free but reduces with time.  Hydro electric projects have a long and useful life, extending over 50 years and helping conserving scarce fuels.  They also help in opening up avenues for development of remote and backward areas.  The countrys Hydro Potential of 84,044 MW represents 2.9 percent of the world potential.

 

HIMACHAL PREADESH STATE ELECTRICITY BOARD

 

Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board was constituted on September 1, 1971 in accordance with the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948. Since then, HPSEB is engaged in promoting the coordinated development of power potential, execution of Hydro Electric Projects, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity within the State in the most efficient and economical manner.  The Board is carrying out is work effectively through various functional agencies.
