The
Port of Pohang, located at the southeastern coast of the Korean
Peninsula, is a fine natural habor well protected from the open sea.
Handling more than 33million tons a year of mostly mineral ore and iron
and steel products, it has greatly contributed to the steady
development of our nation's economy as the main gateway to
Kyungsang-bukdo province
It is well-known fact that the Port of Pohang has been one of the
leading industrial ports in the Republic of Korea(R.O.K) due to Pohang
Iron and steel Company(POSCO) and its related industrial complex in the
port's hinterland area. However, with the modernization of Piers 7-8,
we expect to handle more export/import cargoes coming from the inland
area of the Kyungsang-bukdo, thereby increasing it's importance as a
commercial port.
